I’ve had a clear out.
Of half finished articles.
I’ve had clear outs a few times. If you’ve never done it, I highly recommend considering it. i.e. What shit are you holding on to that you don’t really need anymore?
I mean, this could be physical, mental, emotional, spiritual stuff as far as I’m concerned. It could exist in any fashion. The question is, is it serving you and serving you well? If you think it isn’t, then why on Earth are you holding on to it?
I’ll tell you why.
Because just like the banging song by Neil Sadaka, “Breaking up is hard to do.”
That’s why. That’s why it’s hard to let go of shit, because to begin with it’s hard. And like everything you can only get better at it with reason, practise, and validation.
The clear outs I’ve had in the past tend to have been over materialistic shit; possessions and whatever. Which is weird. Because even that shit is hard to let go of from time to time. I think I wrote about it a while back when I was talking about having a spring clean. One of the hardest things I ever binned off was a picture given to me by my uncle‘s mate for a birthday when I was a kid. He had drawn me a big certificate to say I was an honorary Teenage Mutant Hero Turtle. As I was getting older, moving out, and moving house it was eventually one thing I got rid of when my Mum had given me all my childhood possessions.
I still kind of regret it now. Because it was a fucking wicked picture. And I remember contemplating for quite a while about whether or not I would keep it. But in the end I decided it was some material stuff that I didn’t really need. And I don’t.
But the lesson that destroying and sacrificing that gift taught me was huge...
“LET GO OF THE SHIT YOU DON’T NEED!”
As for the mental and emotional stuff. The way I see it. You can’t actually get rid of that. Suppressing that stuff doesn’t actually work. You can reconstruct and redefine memories and experiences, but for the most part the experience remains.
But what does work is filling up your life with other ‘positive’ experiences. Then eventually the good stuff outweighs the bad stuff. After there is enough good stuff in your life it kind of dilutes the bad stuff and the intensity of it dissipates. I know, I know, I know some cool words.
So, I reckon I binned off like 25/30 articles that I just had sat around half finished. It wasn’t likely that I was ever going to go back to them and finish them. It’s better to cut my losses and implement a better working and writing habit from this point on.
Start something. See it through. And share it. Simple.
Otherwise, all those articles just sit there festering and doing nothing but clogging up the thinking box. Creativity is much easier to execute with no distractions and a clean work environment.

“Human progress is neither automatic nor inevitable... Every step toward the goal of justice requires sacrifice, suffering, and struggle; the tireless exertions and passionate concern of dedicated individuals.” - Martin Luther King, Jr.
