S is for... So

So, not sow and not sew.

Sow is planting seeds eg in a field or to cause an emotion or condition to begin so that it will grow eg doubts. Not to be confused with sow which is an adult female pig.

Sew is making stitches with a needle and thread or sewing machine.

So, the word I’m on about is now used at the beginning of answers to questions raised. (I find it annoying that everyone is doing it at the moment.)

“Why? Blah blah blah”.....”So. Blah blah blah“

Anyway back to so:

It can be used as an adverb.

It can be used as a comparison.

It can be used as a conjunction.

As a replacement to therefore.

As a replacement for in order that.

It can be used as a pronoun.

Examples of using so;

The house is so beautiful.

Don’t be so stupid.

I’m so tired.

Stay a week or so.

Not so fast.

They whisper so that no one can hear. It was painful so I went to see the doctor. She isn’t so bad.

The words tumbled out so fast. Do you really think so?

He’s ever so kind. He‘d never been so happy.

She loves him so much.

I can only do so much.

Plus many, many more expressions using so.

Apparently answering a question with so is from people who can’t answer a question without bringing you up to speed. I think it’s because they have limited vocabulary. Now I’ve brought this irritation to your attention, you’re going to notice it more and more and hopefully it will annoy you too.
