S is for...Starmer, Keir

Naturally, there is still a lot going on at the moment. But, I am mildly optimistic about Keir Starmer becoming the leader of the Labour Party. Yeah, if you missed it, that happened this week.

Yes, even though we are in the middle of a pandemic, this is that important.

You see, when the dust settles, and it will. Then what?

Well this is what I hope for. Proportional Representation. I've always had a confusing relationship with politics. Because, the whole concept it kind of weird to me. I remember voting at different local and general elections as a teenager, and in my twenties. And now in my thirties the whole thing seems even more mental. Because I immersed my self in worlds growing up that focused on teamwork and collaboration; sport and entertainment. Yes you have your differences, but you find a way to get past that and create something.

Why am I excited about Starmer becoming leading? Well he advocates Proportional Representation. Which in my head translates to, collaboration. First past the post, our current electoral system in the UK does not do that. First past the post creates opposition and conflict. Which is why everyone is always kicking off. Whereas Proportional Representation basically acknowledges the fact that a coalition is pretty likely, so you all have to work together. Because we agreed that was the system we were going to use to run the nation. Fascinating.

It's pretty much that S is for...Simple.
